What is Borax CAS 1303-96-4 Used for?
Borax is a natural colorless salt crystal found in some lake beds. It is soluble in water and glycerin, but insoluble in alcohol. When mixed with water, a slight alkaline reaction occurs. Its use in photography is primarily as a pH adjuster in gold toners, but it is also used as an inhibitor in pyrogallic acid developers and as an accelerator in hydroquinone developers.
